Sand and Sky
Between grounding and longing
This is the meaningful story of a bedroom transformation.
The client is a young expat living in Eindhoven, enthusiastic about his new home, yet sometimes feeling alone in a city far from his roots. What he misses most is simple and essential: the blue of the sky, and the feeling of sand under his feet. A sense of openness, of horizon, of belonging.

What started as a technical problem became an opportunity.

There was also a practical challenge to face. The bedroom wall needed to be insulated from the noise of the neighbour.
A new acoustic wall was designed, completed with a lime-based finish with acoustic properties. The surface gains a soft, sandy texture. Quiet, tactile, protective.
The bedroom is wrapped in light, warm tones inspired by sand: cream white, clay, soft beige, and textured finishes that recall natural waves. Linen fabrics add calm and breathability.
Next to the bed, a woven rattan lamp diffuses a gentle light. A quiet reference appears, like a whisper: a message in a bottle.
“A hundred billion castaways, looking for a home.”The Police, Message in a Bottle.
The wardrobe tells another part of the story. Here, the palette shifts to sky blue tones. Deeper, fresher, lighter. A gaze upwards.
The scent recalls the sea.
The taste is lightly salty.
This is a room that holds absence and comfort together.
Grounded like sand, open like sky.
